
Mini Macaw SpeciesIf the large macaw species aren't right for you because of the space, time and money requirements one of the mini macaws may be better suited. They are all intelligent, inquisitive, friendly and a joy to have in the home. As with all pet parrots they do need socialization and entertainment, although they aren't as demanding as some of the larger macaw birds. Hahn's MacawBeing only slightly larger than a cockatiel at 14 inches they are the smallest of the macaws. The Hahn's Macaw is green with a blue forehead and crown. The bend on the wing is red. As in all macaws it has a long tail and large head and the skin around the eyes is white without feathers. These small birds are excellent talkers. Although they can be a bit loud at times these birds are easily trained, friendly and quickly get attached to their owners. Severe MacawAlso known as Chestnut-fronted Macaws . Severe Macaw are the largest of the mini macaws at about 18 inches and loudest. They are green with a chestnut forehead, a blue crown and red shoulders. Severe Macaws are very intelligent, friendly, easily trained and like to mimic speech. Unless they are socialized by a number of people early one they can become one person birds. Yellow-collared MacawYellow-collared Macaws are mostly green with a thin line of yellow around the base of it's neck. Secondary and primary wing feathers are blue. Light maroon tail feathers turning blue at the end. Brownish black feathers cover the cheeks, crown and forehead. As with all macaws the area around the eyes is bald and white. They are about 15 inches long, and live to about 50 years. As far as parrots go they are considered medium noisy.
